A Healthy Church Connects

As we begin a new year, we are intentionally grounding our district in the values that shape healthy ministers and healthy churches. This month, we are focusing on a simple but powerful truth:

A healthy church connects to God, our family, and our communities.

Health always begins with connection to God. When prayer, worship, and the Word remain central, the church stays aligned with the heart of Christ. Even small, consistent spiritual practices make a lasting difference.

This month’s simple step: encourage your leaders or congregation to set aside just five extra minutes each day for prayer or Scripture. Consistency builds spiritual health and creates space for the Holy Spirit to lead.

Healthy churches also prioritize connection within the family of faith. Relationships are not optional; they are essential to discipleship and long-term ministry health. Growth happens when people feel known, valued, and supported.

This month’s simple step: intentionally connect with one person or family each week—through a note, a text, a coffee invitation, or a word of encouragement. One intentional connection can strengthen unity and renew hope.

Finally, a healthy church connects outward to its community. We are called not only to gather but to go—to love, serve, and share the hope of Jesus beyond our walls. Faith becomes visible through simple acts of compassion.

This month’s simple step: choose one small act of service your church can do in your community. Pray for a local school, serve a neighbor, partner with a local organization, or simply ask, “How can we pray for you?”

Healthy growth rarely comes from one big moment. It is formed through small, faithful steps practiced consistently. As we stay connected to God, to one another, and to our communities, health grows—and healthy churches naturally multiply.

This January, let us commit to living connected lives, trusting God to use our faithfulness to accomplish far more than we can imagine.
